Queer Diaries

Estos son los diarios de Santiago Giralt, que empiezan con humor, con ligereza y con piedad, y luego van cerrándose sobre sí mismos en una espiral confesional ahora abierta al mundo, mientras las imágenes parecen adquirir una consistencia inefable.
En una época de confesiones extorsivas, de publicidad de las maniobras del “yo” como fuga de un tiempo presente cuya plena asunción se reemplaza con nimiedades y simulaciones, Giralt parece vivir sus Diarios con una solvencia que nada les debe a las desgracias mencionadas y sí a una especie de ética de la desconexión: el director y diarista colecciona momentos para perderlos, para ignorarlos, incluso para subestimarlos. Su habilidad para la gracia y el encarnizamiento hacen de las vicisitudes de la primera persona –esa desconfianza eterna- un viaje mediante el cual la película va cerrándose sobre sí misma hasta llegar a un punto de ebullición en el que, felizmente, no resta nada por cobijar: lo que queda es solo la turbulencia de lo que respira a sus anchas fuera del diario. These are the diaries of Santiago Giralt, which start with humor, lightness and compassion and then start closing in on themselves in a confessional spiral now open to the world, while the images seem to acquire some ineffable consistency.
In a time of extortive confessions, of publicity of maneuvers of the “self” as getaway from a present time whose full acceptance in replaced with trifles and simulations, Giralt seems to experience his Diaries with a solvency that owes nothing to the aforementioned disgraces but, rather, to some sort of ethics of disconnection—the director and diarist collects moments in order to lose them, to ignore them, even to underestimate them. His ability for humor and fierceness turn the vicissitudes of first-person accounts— that eternal mistrust—into a voyage through which the film closes in on itself until it reaches a boiling point in which, happily, there’s nothing left to take in—what remains is only the turbulence of what is breathed comfortably outside the diary.
